Ingredients for fig sauce
8 cups chopped ripe figs (any kind)
6-8 lemons
2 cups raw cane sugar
1/2 cup cacao powder
Directions for fig sauce
Wash figs. Cut off the ends and chop the fruit into small pieces.
Add to the Dutch oven along with sugar.
Mix all together and start cooking on a medium - low heat.
Add cocoa powder.
Then zest the lemons into the pot with figs and sugar. Cut the lemons in half and squeeze the juice into the pot as well.
Mix all together, then cover and cook on low heat for 20-30 minutes.
Then take immersion blender and process everything into a smooth apple sauce consistency. Pour into jars and cool to room temperature. Then refrigerate for 2-3 weeks, for longer storage freeze it. ENJOY!
