I think everyone has a bad weather day when who knows what to do with the kids when they are stuck indoors for a whole day or two. Keeping kids busy is my goal.
If you are one of my regular readers, you know that I'm a strong believer that children should cook, children should learn about food, In my opinion the number one skill when it comes to prioritizing skills is cooking.

So this recipe came to my mind when we ended up with no school and a lot of bananas in our fruit basket.
When it comes to creating a simple dessert that’s both simple and quick this sundae is a crowd-pleaser. The Banana Bliss Sundae takes this classic treat to the next level: slightly warm and crunchy banana meets with a ice cold scoop of vanilla ice cream, topped with a nice garnish of whipped cream, a drizzle of hot chocolate ganache, and on top of all these goodies, a few fresh raspberries. Naturally this dessert is gluten free, too!
Whether you're looking for a quick dessert after a weeknight meal or a fun treat for a family gathering, this sundae fits the bill perfectly!
Why Is It Called Banana Bliss Sundae?
The contrast between warm chocolate ganache, and cool vanilla ice cream, combined with the smooth texture of ripe bananas and torched turbinado sugar, makes this sundae a truly blissful experience. Plus, the toppings can be customized to fit your mood—whether you’re in the mood for something nutty, fruity, or chocolatey.
What is Banana Split (Bliss)?
Ripe banana - yes the riper the better, a ripe banana has 5 times more fructose vs a slightly under ripe banana.
Turbinado cane sugar - Turbinado sugar is less processed than regular white sugar and retains some of the natural molasses, giving it a slight caramel flavor. The larger crystals of turbinado sugar create a beautifully crunchy, caramelized top when torched. This texture can be more pronounced than when using fine white sugar.
Vanilla ice cream - in the video we used not homemade but a good quality ice cream without any additives. Use homemade if you like, here is the recipe for a classic vanilla ice cream that is easy to make and does not require any equipment.
Whipped cream - of course we used homemade. Here is recipe for it:
Ingredients
1 cup heavy cream
1-2 tablespoons powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions:
Chill a bowl and whisk (or hand mixer beaters) in the fridge for about 15 minutes.
Pour the heavy cream into the chilled bowl.
Whisk or beat the cream on medium-high speed until soft peaks form.
Add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, then continue to whisk until stiff peaks form.
Be careful not to over whip, unless you want to have butter!
Chocolate ganache - it's easier than it sounds, I promise if you follow this recipe you will have the best ganache in no time.
Fresh berries - yes, we used red raspberries, using your favorite fresh cherry would be a great alternative as well. And ditch the traditional choice the Maraschino cherries!
You Should Ditch Maraschino Cherries
Each ingredient, in my opinion, except for the cherries and water is a human species killer. I would not recommend consuming it to anybody, anywhere or any form.
